Robert J. M. Holmes has 17 years experience in the field of antique furniture restoration. On leaving school he attended Leeds College of Art and Design, where he completed the well known advanced level, City and Guilds Furniture Making and Restoration qualification. The course covered all practical and theoretical aspects of both traditional and modern; furniture history, design and making, wood finishing and upholstery applications.

Robert showed an early exceptional talent in the area of wood finishing. Working as part of such a team Robert quickly gained expert practical knowledge and experience in the restoration of all types of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture.

After a number of years working in the industry Robert had a passion to start his own business and in 1995 Robert J.M. Holmes, Restorer of Fine Furniture was established in Derbyshire. Robert quickly made a name for himself restoring fine furniture for local antique dealers, specialising in the re-polishing of pianos and clock cases.  He also built up a thriving client base with private commissions. In 1997 Robert re-located to Ilkley, West Yorkshire to develop the business further. Here he opened a retail premises alongside his workshop, offering select pieces of fine furniture for sale. Again Robert quickly built up a client base in Ilkley and the surrounding areas becoming well known and respected for his efficient and high quality service.
